Lawmaker hails Tinubu for establishing North-Central Development Commissioni

The Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts, representing Akwanga/Nasarawa Egbon/Wamba Federal Constituency of Nasarawa State, Hon. Jeremiah Umaru, on Wednesday, hailed President Bola Tinubu for signing the bill creating the North-Central Development Commission.

President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, had announced during plenary on Tuesday that President Tinubu had assented to the North-Central Development Commission Bill, 2024, a move aimed at boosting economic growth and infrastructure development in the region.

In a statement, Umaru, who sponsored the bill in the House of Representatives, recommended Lafia as the headquarters of the commission, citing its strategic importance within the North-Central geopolitical zone.

Reacting to the development, the elated federal lawmaker, Hon. Jeremiah Umaru, in a swift reaction, described it as a welcome development in view of the expected strategic role in developing the region in particular and Nigeria as a whole.

He also expressed gratitude to Nasarawa State’s governor, Abdullahi Sule, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and other lawmakers for their unwavering support in ensuring the bill’s passage and eventual approval.

He said: “I want to appreciate Mr. President for signing into law the North-Central Development Commission Bill. I appreciate His Excellency, the Chairman of the North-Central Governors’ Forum and the Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, and other North-Central Governors for the massive encouragement throughout the process.

“I want to thank Mr Speaker and the leadership of the House for the massive support for the bill, the members from the North-Central Geopolitical Region for their co-sponsorship and support of the bill, the members of the conference committee from the House for the adoption of the headquarters of the commission in Lafia, Nasarawa State, and the Rules and Business Committees of the National

Assembly and the Legal Unit for the speedy, timely, and professional work.

“The Commission will focus on real development for the region by harnessing the Niger and Benue Basins, other resources, and potentials. The entire people of the North-Central Region are deeply grateful and appreciative.”
