Lawmaker pays WAEC fees for 5000 Edo indigent students

Rep Anamero Dekeri (APC-Etsako Federal Constituency) has paid the 2025 West African Examination Council (WAEC) registration fees for 5,000 indigents students in Edo.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the lawmaker made the payment through his Education Foundation, Anamero Idofe Anamero Foundation for the less privileged students in public schools in Edo.

NAN reports that the lawmaker inaugurated a 40-man committee for the disbursement of the fees at Ogute in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo,on Wednesday.

Dekeri said the gesture was borne out of his compassion to support less privileged students.

He said that the 5,000 students would be selected across the 18 local government area of the state.

Dekeri said that the WAEC enrolment was not political but through his NGO which cut across the state.

“It is a privilege to stand before you today on this occasion of the 2025 WAEC enrolment for 5,000 indigent students of Edo State.

“I am particularly grateful to God that the young Anamero whose family could not afford N500 in 1987 which cause his enrolment to slip into late enrolment of N600.

“That today, I have several thousands of students who could have found themselves in the situation I was then.

“I cannot thank God enough unto him alone be the glory,” Dekeri said.

He charged the committee members to ensure that the disadvantaged students were well captured.

He admonished the beneficiaries to see the gesture as an opportunity for them to give their best in their examination.

He, however, called on corporate organisations and individuals to give back to the society.

“Kindness is a choice while charity road can be lonely.

“Yet they are integral parts of all we need to free our minds and societies, ” the lawmaker said.

Dr. Waziri Edeh, Chairman of the committee, pledged to be fair and transparent in the distribution of the fees to deserving indigent students in Edo.

“I enthralled to announce that the members of this committee have been carefully selected and will fulfil our responsibilities with integrity and excellence.

“As we embark on this important journey, I urged each committee member to uphold the values of fairness, transparency and accountability in all our actions.

“Our duty is to ensure that these scholarships are awarded to the most deserving students,” Edeh said.

Israel Dauda, a beneficiary from Iddo Community Secondary School, thanked the lawmaker and the foundation for the gesture.

“I promise to use it for the purpose for which the money was given to me.

“I really appreciate what the lawmaker has done for me and I promise to do well in the examination,” he said.
