Lawmaker vows to sustain democratic dividends in Taraba

The member representing Bali/Gassol Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Ja’afaru Yakubu, has reaffirmed his commitment to delivering democratic dividends to his constituents, citing years of government neglect as the driving force behind his determination.

Speaking with journalists in Jalingo yesterday, Yakubu lamented the near absence of government presence in the area prior to his election, saying the dire situation motivated him to contest for the seat.

“Some of us chose to serve not for personal gain, but to truly make a difference. Before I assumed office, the level of neglect was alarming. That reality pushed me into politics,” he said.

Highlighting his achievements, Yakubu said he has provided scholarships for undergraduates, facilitated the training of six constituents in China, and spearheaded multiple road construction projects.

According to him, over 500 women have been trained and empowered, while 60 youths received ICT training along with laptop donations. He added that 250 sewing machines have been distributed and several water projects executed across the constituency.

Other projects listed include the installation of solar streetlights, provision of a 33kva transformer, donation of four engine boats, several motorcycles, and support for Primary Health Care Centres (PHCCS).

He also added regular distribution of food items and wrappers during festive seasons as part of his welfare initiatives.

In addition, the lawmaker disclosed that access roads and bridges have been constructed to link isolated communities in the Gassol Local Government Area of the state.

He expressed concern over the collapse of the Namne Bridge and the delays in its reconstruction, which have continued to disrupt movement along the Jalingo–Wukari road.

He assured constituents that his focus remains on sustainable development and inclusive governance.
