Lekki Gardens Homeowners distance selves from planned class action

• Mgt clarifies issues on death toll

Members of Committee of Lekki Garden Residents’ and Homeowners’ Associations have distanced themselves from an invitation published by a Lagos based law firm for judicial reprieve through a class action against the developer, describing such legal move, as unnecessary.

Rising from an emergency meeting in Lekki, the leadership of the resident associations in various phases of Lekki Gardens, said they have not contracted any body or lawyer to initiate any class actions on behalf of hundreds of investors and home owners.

The association expressed their deepest sympathy to the families of the people who lost their loved ones or who were injured in the unfortunate building collapsed incident, saying they were compelled to take a stand in the unfolding drama as ‘directly impacted persons’ in this whole episode.

The chairman of Lekki Gardens Residents Association, Chief Olatunkobo Thomas, who revealed the position of the investors to The Guardian said: “The residents and homeowners’ associations are not in support of this suggested course of action as we believe that the government authorities are fully capable of doing their jobs under the circumstances.

‘The houses developed by Lekki Gardens already belong to investors as the homes are sold ‘off plan’

“The properties” he said, “are not that of the Lekki Gardens because they have already been delivered to us and hundreds of us are already living in those properties.
