LG Electronics donates solar-powered borehole to Ogun community

Residents of Ikija Community in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State have received relief as LG Electronics West Africa commissioned a solar-powered borehole to tackle perennial water shortages in the area.

The project, inaugurated on Wednesday, is designed to provide clean water while reducing dependence on diesel generators, as it operates on renewable energy with minimal maintenance costs.

General Manager, Media Solution TV Division, LG Electronics West Africa, Mr. Choomgbae Seok, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and improving the quality of life in host communities.

Head of Corporate Marketing, Mr. Paul Mba, explained that Ikija was selected because of its rocky terrain, which makes access to potable water difficult. He noted that the Ikija facility is the 11th of 50 boreholes planned nationwide, with similar projects already completed in Port Harcourt, Benin City, Ibadan, and Abuja, while work is ongoing in Kaduna.

Ogun State Commissioner for Housing, Jagunmolu Omoniyi, represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Housing, Mr. Kolawole Agemo, commended LG Electronics for the gesture. He urged the community to take ownership of the facility by setting up a committee for its maintenance.
