Minister of State for Agriculture and Rural Development, Heinekan Lokpobiri and the Bayelsa State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have faulted claim that the party was responsible for the frequent change of police commissioners to the state.

Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the state House of Assembly and elders in the state, under the auspices of the Forum of Restoration Caucus Chairmen, had been engaging in binge of allegations against the APC over insecurity in the state.

Chairman of the PDP in the state, Cleopas Moses, said it was the belief of the party that the frequent change of police commissioners in Bayelsa State was as a result of the desperation of APC to win the forthcoming elections at all costs.

But in separate reactions yesterday, both the minister and the state chapter of the APC described the allegation as spurious, saying that the state government and the PDP were trying to score cheap political points.

A statement signed by party’s Publicity Secretary, Doifie Buokoribo, said the APC was not in any way perturbed about the spurious allegation.

Also, Lokpobiri in a statement signed by its media aide, George Oji, said he was appalled that some politicians and elected political office holders in Bayelsa State, instead of facing the serious issues of governance, go about maliciously associating his person with the postings going on in the police force.

The minister said Dickson, as a former police constable, ought to be familiar with the fact and practice that it is entirely the prerogative of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to deal with all matters concerning the posting of senior police officers in the force, including posting of commissioners of police to the states.
