LOVI tasks women on unity, national development at Easter

As Nigeria joins the global community in marking Easter, The Ladies of Victory International Fellowship has urged women to embrace renewed commitment, sincerity, unity of purpose, and to demonstrate love, sacrifice, and mutual support, as part of efforts to contribute meaningfully to national development.

The group also encouraged women to prioritise healthy living and to undergo regular medical check-ups for early detection and prevention of life-threatening illnesses.

The international President of LOVI sisters, Amb. Helen Azukaego Okechukwu disclosed this in a statement made available to The Guardian in Abuja on Sunday.

Addressing the security situation in the country, especially in the northern region, Amb. Okechukwu expressed grave concern over the rising wave of violent crimes, including repeated attacks in Plateau State, kidnappings along the Kogi axis, and ongoing killings in Benue and Kwara States, with women bearing the brunt of these incidents.

The statement strongly condemned the continued violence, killings, and worsening insecurity across parts of the northern region, and called on the Federal Government, through its security agencies, to adopt proactive and intelligence-driven approaches to tackle the challenges.

It also emphasised the need for the prompt arrest and thorough prosecution of all perpetrators to ensure justice and prevent a recurrence of such acts.

LOVI urged the Federal Government to properly equip security agencies with modern tools and technology, while strengthening intelligence gathering to forestall further attacks on communities.

Amb. Helen also called on women across the country to become more actively involved in politics by fostering strong collaboration and support systems among themselves, as well as vying for elective positions.

The organisation further reaffirmed its commitment to advocating greater female representation, including the push for special seats for women in legislative bodies.
