The town of Abonnema in Rivers State came alive with youthful excitement on Wednesday, 22 May 2025, as the O. B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation held the inaugural edition of its Intra-School Quiz Competition to commemorate the posthumous birthday of its Grand Benefactor, High Chief (Dr.) Olu Benson Lulu-Briggs.
Held at St. Augustine Nursery and Primary School, the event drew pupils, teachers, clergy, and community leaders, all gathered in honour of the late philanthropist, whose enduring legacy continues to shape lives through education and social impact.
Speaking on behalf of the Foundation’s Founder and Chairman, Dr. (Mrs.) Seinye O. B. Lulu-Briggs, Foundation representative Ms. Ibiere Akpana reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to early childhood education. Citing Proverbs 22:6, Akpana emphasised the critical importance of nurturing young minds to build a morally upright and prosperous society.
In her tribute, Dr. (Mrs.) Seinye Lulu-Briggs described her late husband as a lifelong advocate for accessible education, adding that the new quiz initiative was a direct reflection of his passion. “High Chief O. B. Lulu-Briggs believed that education could shatter barriers and change destinies,” she said. “This event mirrors that unwavering vision.”
Pupils from the host school competed across key academic subjects in a spirit of friendly rivalry. The winning teams received cash prizes, certificates, and trophies, while all participants went home with educational materials—underscoring the Foundation’s drive to encourage scholastic excellence.
Venerable Umeokolo Ikechukwu, Archdeacon of the Kalabari Central Archdeaconry and Vicar of St. Augustine Anglican Church, alongside the school’s Head Teacher, Mrs. Irene Quakers, applauded the Foundation’s intervention, describing it as timely and impactful. They noted that beyond academic rewards, the event helped to boost pupils’ self-confidence and fostered a sense of purpose.
One of the quiz winners, Rowen Otieasa, a Primary 5 pupil, expressed his joy: “This is a day we will never forget. We’re so grateful for the chance to learn and be celebrated.”
This maiden edition of the quiz marks a new chapter in the Foundation’s commitment to promoting education, empowerment, and service—cornerstones of the legacy left behind by High Chief O. B. Lulu-Briggs. For the people of Abonnema, and many others across Nigeria, that legacy remains a guiding light.
