The District Head of Makarfi, Alhaji Adamu Abdullahi, has commended Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani for reconstructing and modernising the General Hospital in Makarfi, saying the intervention has reversed decades of neglect and transformed healthcare delivery in the area.
Abdullahi said the project has significantly improved access to quality healthcare services, restored public confidence in the health sector and renewed hope among residents of Makarfi and neighbouring communities.
He spoke while addressing journalists during a statewide media tour of projects executed by the Uba Sani administration in Zone One of Kaduna State.
The tour was led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, and the Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Umma Ahmad, as part of efforts to showcase ongoing development projects and engage directly with beneficiary communities.
Speaking on behalf of the people of Makarfi, the traditional ruler disclosed that the hospital, established in the early 1970s, had not undergone any major renovation or received modern medical equipment for more than four decades until the intervention of the present administration.
He described the transformation of the facility as a landmark achievement that has addressed longstanding healthcare challenges and improved the quality of life of residents.
“For many years, our people struggled with inadequate healthcare services and had to travel long distances to access quality medical treatment. Today, that reality has changed,” he said.
According to him, Governor Sani fulfilled a promise made to the people of Makarfi by reconstructing and equipping the hospital with modern facilities and equipment.
“The reconstruction and equipping of this hospital have brought relief, restored confidence in public healthcare and renewed hope for our people. We are grateful that the Governor has fulfilled his promise to the community,” Abdullahi stated.
He added that the upgraded facility now serves not only residents of Makarfi but also people from neighbouring communities who depend on it for healthcare services.
Residents who spoke during the media tour also expressed satisfaction with the project.
One of the patients, Malama Sadiya Rabiu, said the upgraded hospital has reduced the hardship and financial burden associated with seeking medical treatment outside the local government area.
“Today, we can access quality healthcare services close to home. This has brought great relief to families, and we are grateful to Governor Uba Sani for fulfilling his promise,” she said.
Another resident, Abdullahi Musa, noted that the project has strengthened public trust in government, describing the reconstructed hospital as evidence of the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of ordinary citizens.
Makarfi General Hospital is among 16 general hospitals currently undergoing reconstruction and modernisation under Governor Sani’s healthcare transformation programme across Kaduna State.
Speaking during the tour, the Commissioner for Health, Hajiya Umma Ahmad, said the project reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare services.
She stressed that healthcare remains a priority for the government, which has continued to invest heavily in the rehabilitation, upgrading and equipping of health facilities, particularly in underserved communities.
“The administration considers healthcare a fundamental right and remains committed to ensuring that every resident of Kaduna State has access to quality and affordable healthcare services,” she said.
