Makinde creates migration, security office to boost security, economic growth

Governor, deputy, 32 lawmakers receive certificates of return
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has created Migration and Homeland Security Office to combat security challenges and as well boost the economy of the state.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Migration and Homeland Security, Mr. Segun Adegoke, who disclosed this, yesterday, during a courtesy visit to Oyo State Chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), said the new office is aimed at providing professional service towards managing the inflow and outflow of people and products in the state.

Adegoke, who was received by the state executives of the union, led by its Chairman, Chief Ademola Babalola, said that the vision of the governor was to ensure sustainable development, adequate security and economic growth in the state as contained in his Omituntun 2.0 agenda.

He said the effort of the governor would foster synergy with critical stakeholders towards provision of database for the state, adding that the office would serve as a One-Stop Shop, especially for indigenes in Diaspora, to make the state attractive for investment.

Babalola, in his response, promised the readiness of the union to be a partner in progress for the newly-created office.

He lauded the initiative of the governor for creating the office, saying that the appointment of Adegoke to coordinate the office is highly commendable.

MEANWHILE, Makinde, his deputy, Bayo Lawal and 32 lawmakers that won at the 2023 governorship and House of Assembly elections were presented their certificates of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In his address, Oyo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Adeniran Tella, while appreciating relevant stakeholders for their support before, during and after the general elections, appealed to the elected leaders to use their renewed mandate to reawaken the confidence of the electorate on their voting exercise.

Tella said the use of technology for the 2023 polls added value to the improved electoral process, calling for the support of the political class to help the commission conduct better exercise in future.

Also speaking, INEC National Commissioner for Oyo, Lagos, and Ekiti states, Mr. Sam Olumekun, said that preparation for this year’s election commenced immediately after the 2019 polls, which he said, contributed to the success of the elections.

Makinde, who spoke shortly after receiving his certificate of return, dedicated the election victory to the people of the state.

He said he would hit the ground running to redouble the efforts that take Oyo State from poverty to prosperity
