Governor Seyi Makinde and Senator Teslim Folarin have differed over Oyo State Governor’s claims on achievement in Oyo State since 2019.

While Makinde claimed that his administration has achieved more than enough in terms of development that warrants his re-election; Folarin, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2023 election, disagreed, saying the incumbent administration has dragged Oyo State back in terms of progress from where the immediate past governor, the late Abiola Ajimobi left it.

The State’s Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, while giving the scorecard of his principal, said Makinde has done massive infrastructural projects across the three senatorial districts in the last three and half years.

Olatubosun, who stated this at the inauguration of Governor Seyi Makinde (GSM) Market and Artisans Marine, at Saki Town Hall, Saki, noted that the present administration has been transparent and accountable to the people.

He also reiterated Makinde’s determination to do more for the zone, if re-elected in 2023.

Olatubosun enjoined the people of Saki-East, Saki-West and Atisbo to disregard falsehood by the opposition, as Makinde has fulfilled his campaign promises to Oke-Ogun residents.

During the engagement with traders and artisans in Saki-East, Saki-West and Atisbo Local Councils, Olatubosun said the governor’s foray into politics was for service delivery and not for personal gain or deception.

According to him: “Makinde will consolidate on his administration’s achievements in the last three-and-half years, if re-elected. The free education policy of the present administration has been a huge achievement of Makinde’s administration.

The governor has instructed that a Primary Healthcare Centre must be functioning in each of the 351 wards across the state, with 220 health centres completed, while the remaining are on the verge of completion.”

The commissioner dismissed the propaganda of opposition on security, describing it as cheap and unreasonable. He said it was wrong to say that Makinde has done nothing to secure life and property in Oyo State.

The commissioner disclosed that residents and indigenes of Saki are enjoying the best of times with the revamped Oyo State Agricultural Development Programme (OYSADEP), rechristened Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA), with its headquarters in Saki.

“The newly constructed Saki Township Road has given a new lease on life, while the Ogbooro-Saki Township Road is underway.”

But Folarin said the electorate in Oyo should not fall for the government’s propaganda, a few months away from election.

Folarin, while addressing his supporters in Ibarapa said: “Makinde has nothing more to offer Oyo State other than the heaps of refuse that have currently taken over the metropolis. He has nothing to add other than the bad state of roads all over the place, especially in Ibadan where considerable hours are lost in traffic due to bad roads. The governor cannot offer more than how it has brought the state of education to zero ground and destroyed our local council autonomy.”

The three-term senator also condemned the woeful performance of Oyo State in the 2021 West African Examination Council (WAEC) ranking.

According to him, “The education sector under Makinde-led administration is nothing to write home about. We have never had it so bad in the history of Oyo State. Since the inauguration of the present administration, zero or little attention was given to the rehabilitation of decayed educational infrastructure; myopic dissolution of School Governing Boards and inconsistent payment of running grants to schools.

Another indicator of Makinde’s failure is the recently completed joint promotion examination where 10 question papers were made available to a class of 50 pupils.”

Folarin warned the electorate against re-electing a government with the propensity to betray their mandate.
