Man, 24, docked for alleged theft of N250,000

The Police on Wednesday arraigned a 24-year-old man, Sesi Sorunke, in an Ota Magistrates’ Court for alleged house-breaking and theft of items valued at N250,000.

The accused, of no fixed address, is being tried on a two-count charge of stealing and burglary.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Itaita Ebibomino, told the court that the accused committed the offence on July 2 at about 3 p.m. at Igbusi area, in Ota.

He said that the accused broke into the house of a man identified as Coker Afunwape and stole the items.

Ebibomino said that the offence contravened sections 390 (9) and 411(2) of the Criminal Code Vol. 1, Revised Laws of Ogun state, 2006.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Funke Odubanjo, granted him bail in the sum of N150,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She ordered that the sureties, who must work and reside within the district, must show evidence of one year tax payment.

In addition, Odubanjo said that the sureties should swear to an affidavit of means and submit four recent passport photographs to the court.

The magistrate, while directing that the sureties should show evidence of gainful employment, adjourned the case to Aug. 17 or hearing.
