man-shadow_picA MIDDLE-AGED trader, Mallam Rabiu Muhammad of Dan Tsinke village in Kano, was last Thursday found soaked in his own blood in his room with throat slit and private part cut off.

Still breathing but unconscious, Rabiu, 32, single, was discovered helpless in his brother’s house by a friend Burhanaden Abdullah Bakori at about 8:00am in the morning and he quickly alerted neighbours who came to Rabiu’s rescue.

Although nobody could immediately ascertain why he attempted suicide, his friend Abdullah told The Guardian that Rabiu was left alone in his brother’s house after the brother and his family travelled out of Kano.

Narrating the ugly trend, Abdullah revealed: “I was at Rabiu’s place at about 8:00am to discuss with him as a friend and I found the doors locked. It was unusual to me, because he normally wakes up before 6:00am. I knocked the door, he refused to open and I did not hear anybody sound from his room.

“I quickly alerted people in the area about the development. We all knocked until we forced the door open and we met him lying unconscious in his pool of blood. We saw a knife soaked with blood on the floor his throat already sliced like Sallah Ram,” Abdullahi narrated with horror.

He further said: “We quickly went to Naibawa police station and policemen came and took him to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital. It was at the hospital t we discovered that Rabiu’s private part had also been cut off.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in Kano ASP Musa Magagi Magiya, who confirmed the incident, told The Guardian on telephone that Rabiu was alive but unconscious.

According to Magiya, the victim was rescued by the neighbours having found him in cold blood after slitting his own throat and genital. He said Rabiu was initially taken to the state-owned General Hospital before being transferred to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where he is responding to treatment.
