An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos has remanded a 37-year-old man, Sunday Obadele, in prison custody for allegedly hacking to death a 63-year-old man.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.I. Adelaja, said the accused should be kept behind bars at Ikoyi Prisons pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The accused is facing a twin charge of murder and conspiracy.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Richard Odigie, told the court that the offences were committed on Feb. 17 at 1.30 p.m. at No. 16, Araromi St., Oto-Awori area, Ijanikin.

“The duo had a heated argument which led to a fight between Obadele and the deceased, Amuda Abudo.

“During the fight, they both picked up cutlasses to defend themselves, but Obadele had an upper hand and gave the deceased a deeper cut,” he said.

Odigie said the offences contravened Sections 221 and 231 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be sentenced to life imprisonment on conviction.

The case has been adjourned to June 12.
