Man arraigned for allegedly assaulting octogenarian

A 40-year-old man, Peter Ani, on Wednesday, appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting an octogenarian, Titus Abiodun.

The defendant, whose house address was not provided, is being tried on a two-count charge of conspiracy and assault.

The Prosecutor, ASP James Obaletan, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 17, at about 6:30 pm at Egbejoda town via Ifetedo in Ife South Local Government.

Obaletan said that the defendant conspired with other now at large to assault Abiodun by striking him with his fist.

According to him, the offence contravenes sections 355 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The Defence Counsel, Mrs. Oluwatosin Ademola, applied for bail for the defendant on the most liberal terms, assuring the court that her client would not jump bail and would provide reliable sureties.

Magistrate Abosede Sarumi granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Sarumi ruled that the sureties, who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, should must swear to an affidavit of means.

The case was adjourned until April 7 for mention
