An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court yesterday ordered the remand of Ogunjobi Gbenga Francis, 50, in prison over alleged threats to kill the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye Ekiti (FUOYE), Prof. Abayomi Fasina, with a dangerous weapon and charm.
The prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, said the defendant, on or about March 15 at Oye-Ekiti within the Oye-Ekiti Magisterial District, did, without lawful authority, enter the landed property of Prof. Abayomi Fasina and willfully and unlawfully damage the gate key and chain valued at N250,000.
Inspector Oriyomi added that the defendant, on the same date and place, did, in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace, enter a parcel of land which is in the actual peaceable possession of Prof. Abayomi Fasina by erecting a structure therein.
The prosecutor noted that the offence committed is punishable under Sections 46, 65, and 369 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State and under Section 3(4) of the Ekiti State Property Protection (Anti-Land Grabbing) Law 2019.
Counsel to the defendant, Barrister E. O. Adedeji, urged the court to grant his client bail, saying he would not jump bail.
But the prosecutor objected to the bail application, saying that the offence involves threats to life and the re-selling of the land to another person by the defendant.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mr. Abayomi Adeosun, refused to grant the bail application and ordered the remand of the defendant till May 30 for the ruling on his bail application.
