The Movement for Actualization of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) has condemned the arrest and detention of Radio Biafra Director, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, by the Department of State Services (DSS), describing it as cowardly.
The group urged the government to quickly release Kanu or arraign him in a court or face eruption of Biafra worldwide protest.
MASSOB’s National Director of Information, Comrade Uchenna Madu, said the arrest of Kanu by DSS in Lagos three days after he returned to Nigeria is unacceptable
Madu, while condemning the arrest, accepted that it is part of non-violence struggle, noting that no agitation is complete without arrest, dentition and prosecution.
According to him, this singular act will cause more diplomatic harm than good on Nigeria’s image. He said before Kanu’s arrest, he has succeeded in rooting the Biafra struggle in about 78 countries, including Biafra land.
His words: “The arrest will assist immensely in reviving the consciousness and sympathy for Biafra actualization in higher dimension and through its Radio Biafra, international tour and secret diplomatic support for MASSOB which will endanger the already battered image of Nigeria before the international community.
“It will further cause more harm to Nigeria, shaping the minds of the activist, drawing sympathy from the internal and external observers. It also shows that Nnamdi Kanu and Radio Biafra has become a factor of reckoning in Nigeria ”.
Madu accused the factional leader of MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, of complicity in the arrest due to alleged deviation and lust for wealth.
Meanwhile, as the arrest of Kanu takes the centre stage among residents of Enugu, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, would not want to be dragged into the discussions.
Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr Joe Nworgu, told The Guardian in Enugu that the organization would not comment on the development at, least for now.
