The Executive Director, Media and Public Affairs to Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Mr. John Mayaki has underscored the need for residents of the state to encourage the governor in his infrastructural developments.

Briefing newsmen after an inspection tour of various projects in Benin GRA by the Rapid Response Squad, an arm of the state government, Mayaki noted that, even with dwindling allocation, projects were still ongoing to meet with the people’s needs.

He added that the projects currently ongoing will be 80 or 100 per cent completed before rainy season sets in.

“When the people see good work, they should appreciate it and after the job has been completed, they should maintain the environment. You don’t dump refuse inside the gutter; it blocks it. And when erosion comes, it affects you. I urge the people to keep their environment clean so that government will continue to do more,” he said.

Meanwhile, residents of Ugbekun Community in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area have decried the untold hardship they were made to suffer before the Construction of a 10-kilometer road in the area, even as they commended the government for completing the project. Residents Robert Agbontaen, Chief Joseph Obanor and Dr. Okunnu Femi, who spoke to The Guardian, said the roads were not motorable until the government came to their rescue.

Agbontaen said, “we are all enjoying the road now; it is a good project. I have been hearing democracy in figure and not in practical but I now enjoy what is called democracy in Nigeria. I Praise the effort of the government,” he said.

For Chief Obanor, “this road was impassable; when it rains, you can’t even come out from your house. But now, they have done the road and we are happy with it.”

Dr. Femi, who is also a clergy, said, “Now, we have a better road, a better drainage, a better environment, everything is okay and no course for complain. Before, there was erosion here; there was only one road that leads to this place because the rest were blocked.”
