Commissions mega asphalt plant in Enugu

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, yesterday, inaugurated a committee for the implementation of the New National Minimum Wage for civil and public servants in the state at the Government House, giving the committee one month to submit its report.

The Head of Service, Kenneth Ugwu, was made the Chairman of the committee; the representative of the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Sandra George, was appointed the Secretary and the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Dr. Nathaniel Uramah.

The Commissioner for Labour and Employment, Chika Ugwuoke, and the Accountant-General of the state, Anthony Okenwa, among others, were appointed members of the committee.

On the labour side, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Enugu State chapter, Fabian Nwigbo, and Chairman of the state chapter of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Benedict Asogwa were also appointed members.

Inaugurating the committee, Mbah reiterated his commitment to workers’ welfare, urging it to consult widely with relevant stakeholders, especially the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure that the workers take ownership of the eventual report.

ALSO, Mbah, yesterday, commissioned a mega asphalt production plant built by his administration. This is part of the effort of his administration to realise his promise of constructing 10,000 roads in eight years.

While inaugurating the plant, Mbah explained that the state would also produce the inputs for asphalt production, noting that the moves would drastically reduce the cost of road construction for the state.
