Mbah, Otu, Fubara pledge support for armed forces, fallen heroes’ families
Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, yesterday, praised the Nigerian Armed Forces for their sacrifices, assuring that his government would continue to support them in their efforts to make the country safe.
Mbah said that the sacrifices of fallen heroes would not be in vain, urging Nigerians to eschew hate, as well as acts of violence and insecurity.
According to him, this is the only way the country would truly reciprocate the gallantry of the servicemen and the memory of those who paid the supreme price in service of the fatherland.
Mbah spoke at the laying of wreaths and parade at the Okpara House, Enugu, to conclude a series of events marking the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
He said: “These selfless men and women, whom we remember and honour today, gave their lives in operations ranging from the Nigerian civil war, as well as numerous internal security operations across the country today to various peacekeeping operations in places as far as Chad, Somalia, Sudan, Liberia, Sierra Leone and many others.
“The sacrifices of these departed defenders are most certainly not lost on us, and our only responsibility as beneficiaries of their great labour of love can only be to ensure that their high price is ultimately not paid in vain.
“Consequently, we must constantly rededicate ourselves to the duty of maintaining peace and security across our nation, not only by eschewing all expressions of hate or acts of violence and insecurity, but also by supporting our brothers and sisters in the security agencies.”
“In line with this, this administration will certainly continue to support the men and women of our security services in the state.”
SIMILARLY, Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has assured families of fallen heroes that their sacrifices will not be forgotten.
Speaking at a Church service held at the Presbyterian Church, Hope Waddell Parish, Calabar, in honour of fallen heroes, as part of activities to mark the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Otu, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Anthony Owan-Enoh, pledged to support families of fallen heroes’ families in whichever way he can.
ALSO, Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, said though the war on terror and banditry is not yet won in the country, it is worthwhile to commend the armed forces for the significant gains made on the battlefield.
Fubara, however, commended President Bola Tinubu for his determination to tackle economic and security challenges with a political will that will end activities of Boko Haram, and other internal security threats from non-state actors.
The governor described, as great, the fierce operations of men and officers of the military against non-state actors who continued to cause insurrections, ensuring that peace is restored in Nigeria.
