MBF faults amnesty for repentant terrorists

Senator Uba Sani

• Hoodlums allegedly plant landmines on Zamfara roads

Members of the Middle Belt Forum (MBF), Kaduna State Chapter have faulted the decision by Governor Uba Sani to grant amnesty to repentant terrorists.

Though, the group said it supports efforts by the government in pursuing peace, security and safety in the state, it frowned on the evil deeds of the repentant hoodlums.

According to the MBF members, the exercise should not be done by condoning threats to the security of the lives of citizens.

In a statement, the State Chairman of MBF, Luka Binnyat, recalled that the governor pardoned the insurgents in Birnin Gwari town last Thursday, noting:  “The governor claimed that they have repented and dropped arms following negotiations with multi-sectoral stakeholders.”

MEANWHILE, terrorists have planted landmines on roads leading to some communities in Zamfara State where they operate, to frustrate soldiers from rescuing kidnapped victims.

The hoodlums, operating in Dansadau and Yargaladima communities of Maru Local Council of the state, and allegedly led by one Dogo Gide, were adopting the guerrilla war strategy.

According to a BBC Hausa Service report monitored yesterday in Kaduna, a local claimed on Sunday night that the terrorists regrouped in a forest, planning to launch another attack on the Yargaladima community.

He said locals were apprehensive about what the next hour would be.

“The terrorists detonated the land mines in the night and abducted seven people, women and little children,” the locals alleged.

The BBC report said the landmines blew a vehicle conveying passengers.

They said the incident occurred on Sunday, and was part of the newly adopted strategy by the hoodlums to deny security forces access to them when they attack communities.

A local, who craved anonymity, explained that whenever the terrorists deployed bombs or landmines, accusing fingers were pointed at Dogo Gide, being his strategy to rob communities from the Dansadau axis to Gusau, the state capital.

“The terrorists were invading the Magami and Gusau area,” he said.

When contacted, the spokesperson for Zamfara State Police Command, Yazid Abubakar, promised to react in due time.
