Mbu Frowns At Decaying Infrastructure In Police Institution

Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Mbu Joseph Mbu, yesterday, expressed dismay at the level of infrastructural decay at the apex police-training institute in Jos.

Mbu, who is Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos, spoke to reporters after the graduation ceremony of 47Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) who took part in the Strategic Leadership and Command course two/2015.

He hinted at the need for a special committee to be set up by the presidency to visit all police training institutions in the country, stressing that there were several abandoned projects of over 20 years.
The police boss disclosed that it was a rare privilege for him to have been posted to the apex training institution responsible for the training of only senior police officers.

He added: “If we want changes, a special committee should be set up to visit all police training institutions because they are in a state of decay. I have no regret saying this and I don’t care the consequences of what I am saying. Police Training institutions are in a state of decay.
“Very soon I am going to invite all the contractors to come here. There is total decay in our training institutions. They have been neglected for a very long time. More than 20 years. We are facing infrastructural and logistics decay. Officers who are here are feeding themselves. Then later, allowances are sent to them. It should not be so. Before the officers come here, the Ministry of Police Affairs, which has now been collapsed, ought to make provisions and send adequate funds to the Commandant so that they can feed them well.

On how far contracts approved by former President Goodluck Jonathan for the renovation of facilities in police training schools have gone, the AIG said they have been abandoned.
“The projects have been abandoned; very good ideas, vision but no implementation,| he lamented pointing out that the contractors need to be followed up and funded properly since training institutions are the key to the success of any organisation.

While tasking the graduating officers to be courageous and have integrity, Mbu warned them to shun unprofessional acts and corruption reminding them that your participation in this course is informed by the huge premium the present administration of the Force attaches to training at all cadres.”
