MD seeks end to Ukraine-Russia feud to contain rising wheat prices
Managing Director of Crown Flour Mill, Ashish Pande, has pleaded for truce to the ongoing Ukrainian and Russian war.
Ashish, who doubles as new Olam Agri Country Head, explained that the crisis has contributed to the hike in prices of wheat from Ukraine and imbalances in food security in Nigeria.
He made the appeal at the Crown Flour Mill long service award ceremony and recognition of over 133 outstanding staff, adding that the company was at its best in appreciating efforts of employees to the growth of the firm.
Ashish said: “The biggest challenge we are facing as a company is foreign exchange. That is one of our biggest challenges. If everything is imported in the country, it will be so difficult for us to survive and also meet the needs of our own people in terms of quick service delivery.
“For instance, these times are very tough and in terms of foreign exchange, we are able to buy at the right price globally and therefore survive. The future depends upon wheat prices.”
Wheat is coming from Ukraine. Because many governments are now involved, hopefully, by getting this wheat from Ukraine, I believe wheat prices should come down. Once wheat prices come down we will be able to breathe a little bit easier.”
