MDAs owe PHED N200b, says MD
Promises improved power supply at Yuletide
Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution PLC (PHED) has said Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) owe the DisCo N200 billion as at December, 2023.
The Managing Director of PHED, Dr Benson Uwheru, disclosed this, yesterday, in Port Harcourt, during a media chat to mark its 10th anniversary. According to the Chief Executive Officer of PHED, apart from Rivers State Government, which has been firm in paying for the MDA’s under it, other state governments under PHED franchise owe heavily.
He said: “We are a work in progress, we have constraints with gas supply. The gas supply is not enough for us, also the foreign exchange issue. How do you pay for gas that is denominated in foreign currency considering the devaluation in exchange rates. These and more are some of our constraints. The distribution company are the last on the lineup but we will continue to do our best to render quality service to the people “ He, however, said that despite the challenges, the company has witnessed increased growth.
“When we came on board, we had about N4.6 billion but we have achieved over 60 per cent increase in growth. We hit a milestone of N7 billion from the figure we met on ground and that shows revenue growth.”
