Methodist Church begins synod tomorrow

The Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Lagos West, has said that its 2025 yearly synod will kick off at the Methodist Church, Idimu, Lagos, on Friday, May 16, 2025, with both the ministerial and Lay sessions.

The Lay President of Methodist Church Nigeria, Archdiocese of Lagos Mainland, Olusola Adu, is expected to declare the synod open, while the programme will be rounded off with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at the same venue during the 10.00 a.m. service.

According to a statement by the Public Relations Adviser, Methodist Church Nigeria, Diocese of Lagos West, Abiona Babarinde, the yearly synod will bring all the leaders of the federating circuits that make up the Diocese together to review the past activities and likewise preview the future of the Diocese.

Meanwhile, the Chief Host of the Synod, the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Revd. Ezekiel Akande, who spoke on the event, said: “This year’s deliberation will be unique in all ramifications as both the ministerial and the Lay leaders of the Diocese shall focus more on the evangelism aspect of our doctrine as the Methodist Church Nigeria moves towards the growth and development of all the unit churches that make up the Diocese.

“Our discussions will revolve around how we can rise to the occasion of giving the diocese the spiritual upliftment of members through effective evangelism in and around our locations where we have our churches. This will help to reach out to more people beyond existing members. More importantly is to equally galvanise young members of the church towards building their spiritual future.”

In the same vein, the Lay President, Sir Gbenga Akindele, posited that the synod is expected to attract notable personalities within and outside the Methodist family to be led by His Eminence, Dr Oliver Ali-Aba, Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, among other dignitaries.

According to Akindele, all is actually set to host invited guests and all the delegates from the federating circuits to fellowship together for the future growth of the Diocese.
