Troops kill scores of terrorists, recovers vehicles

Military’s effort to bring the Boko Haram insurgency to an end has continued to yield results, as the Nigeria Army during the weekend reclaimed many areas hitherto occupied by members of the sect in the north eastern region of the country, killing scores in some encounters and recovering some vehicles, machines and weapons from the fleeing insurgents.

Army spokesman, Col. Sani Usman said in a statement yesterday that the operation involved troops of the 231, 331 Battalions and some elements of the Armed Forces Special Forces 3 Division.
Usman said that the troops killed two of the insurgents and captured another identified as Musa Abdulahi.
He stated also that the troops also recovered two military uniforms, one General Purpose Gun, one AK 47 rifle and two dane guns.

Also said to have to have been recovered during the operation were ’25 motorcycles, 30 bicycles and grinding machines, as well as large quantity of foodstuffs.

Usman quoted the General Officer Commanding the 7 Division, Brigadier General Victor Ezugwu, as having said Dure 1 and Dure 2 were strongholds of the Boko Haram in mainland of Sambisa.

He said that the troops discovered during the operation that the terrorists were also poisoning sources of water supply apart from burying IEDs in the operational area.
