Military offensive eliminates ISWAP terrorists in Borno
Air force personnel tasked on professionalism
The military said yesterday that several Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists were neutralised after ground troops, backed by fighter jets and helicopter gunship of the Nigerian Air Force successfully repelled an attempted invasion of troops defensive location at Gajigana in Borno State.
Coordinator of Defence Media Operations, Maj-Gen. John Enenche, stated: “Troops of 212 Battalion, Sector 1 Operation Lafiya Dole on May 17, 2020 successfully repelled Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT)/ISWAP attack and killed several terrorists, recovered arms and ammunition at Gajigana in Nganzai Council of Borno State.
“The unit had earlier received credible intelligence on BHT convergence and advancement to attack troops’ location at Gajigana from Goni Usmanti Village in Nganzai Council.
“In response to the terrorists attack on ground troops, the Air Task Force scrambled its attack aircraft and helicopter gunships to provide close air support and engaged the BHT in exchange of fire with troops.”
According to him, items recovered include two AK-47 rifles, three magazines, 36 rounds of 7.62-millimeter special ammunition, two 36 hand grenades and one LG3 bombs.
“The armed forces of Nigeria will remain resolute and continue to sustain the offensive against the enemies of our great nation. We shall not relent until peace and normalcy are restored not only in North East but also in every other troubled region of our beloved country,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Air Officer Commanding Special Operations Command, Bauchi, AVM Charles Ohwo, has tasked personnel who were recently trained as Special Forces on Search and Rescue to be professional in the discharge of their duties.
Ohwo gave the advice while receiving the trained personnel at the 205 Combat Search and Rescue Group yesterday in Kerang.
The personnel were trained at the Air Force Special Operations Command, Bauchi.
The commanding officer, who congratulated the personnel for successfully undergoing the course, charged them to be highly disciplined.
He said the troop, who now have additional competency, were deployed to the Rescue Group in Kerang, to support the fight against all forms of insecurity in Plateau State.
