Military Restricts Movement For Borno Senatorial Bye-Election

THE military in Borno State has placed a restriction of movement order in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council (MMC) and Jere council areas of the state for today’s conduct of election into Borno Central Senatorial District by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The order was contained in a press statement by the media coordinator, Operation Lafiya Dole, Col. Tukur Gusau, yesterday in Maiduguri.

said the restriction order commences from 6am to 5pm, with no vehicle, tricycle, bicycles and animals movements until the election the commission completes the election.

The statement reads in part: “Similarly, no vehicles would be allowed into and out of the senatorial zone during the bye-election exercise. Citizens are called upon to come out freely to exercise their constitutional right. Appropriate security measures were put in place to guarantee peaceful election exercise in the senatorial district.”

The statement added: “You should not hesitate to send messages to the following numbers: 08099999753 and 08099999754 if you observe any security breach or suspicious conduct of the elections in any of the polling centres.
“The Theatre Commander once again wishes to thank members of the general public for their unflinching support towards the success of Operation Lafiya Dole.”
