Mimiko to deliver UNIBEN 49th, 50th convocation lecture
A former governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, will deliver the University of Benin (UNIBEN) 49th and 50th convocation lecture titled: “The Poor also Deserve Education: Our Founding Heroes’ Legacies in Educational Equity and Equality.”
UNIBEN Vice Chancellor Prof. Lilian Imuetinyan Salami disclosed this on Monday to newsmen during a press briefing to herald activities to mark the 49th and 50th convocation/54 Founders Day Anniversary.
Salami said the academic sessions culminating in this 49th and 50th Convocation have been quite vibrant.
She said, “We continue to commend faculty staff, students, and indeed the entire university community for the sacrifices and immense efforts put in to ensure all-around success.
“Evidence of the diligence of staff and students have manifested in the increased number of first-class graduates that the University has produced in the two sessions in focus.”

Salami said seven distinguished professors have been approved by the Senate of the University to be recipients of the honour of Professors Emeriti at this year’s convocation.
Among the personalities of Professors Emeriti include, Prof. Friday Okonofua, former Vice Chancellor University of Medical Sciences, Prof. Nosakhare Odeh Eghafona, Prof. Felix Okeimen, Prof. Ikponmwosa Owie.
Others are, Prof. Patrick Edobor Igbinovia, and a former Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Prof Augustine Obasohan, as well as Prof. V. J. Ikhatua, Professor of Animal Science.
The Vice-Chancellor added that three personalities would be conferred with the University’s Honorary Doctorate, namely Chief Leemon Ikpea, to be conferred with Doctor of Business Administration, Dr. Kingsley Momodu, who will be conferred with the Honorary Doctor of Science.
A foremost entrepreneur and chairman, VESA fisheries, Mrs. Veronica Igbe will be honoured with the Honorary Doctor of Business Administration in recognition of her enterprise.
