Minister urges military retirees to fight against insurgency

The Minister of Defence, Brig. Gen. Muhammed Mansur Dan-Ali (rtd.) yesterday urged retired military personnel to lend a helping hand in the fight against insurgency in the country.
Dan-Ali, who stated this while delivering an address at the passing out ceremony of Trainees Course 01/2016 and Commissioning of Projects at the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC) Oshodi, Lagos, reiterated President Muhahmadu Buhari’s commitment to proper resettlement of service personnel after years of meritorious service to the nation.
Dan-Ali, who was represented by the Director of Army, Ministry of Defence, Mrs Iroh Ikenga, as the Special Guest of Honour, explained that the government is vigorously pursuing the policy of due process aimed at ensuring transparency and accountability and rule of law, which is expected to culminate in the transformation of all spheres of national life.
While urging them not to forget the challenges of the present environment to prudently manage scarce resources, the minister also called on the graduands to contribute their part towards the consolidation of the country’s democratic process for national development.
“You must also uphold the highest standards of conduct, character, integrity, excellence, service and team work. As worthy ambassadors of the service, you will be held accountable for these standards even while in retirement,” he said.
Speaking on the many challenges facing the military, ranging from insurgents in the North East and other parts of the country, Dan-Ali charged the retirees to collaborate with the serving members of the Army Forces to completely eradicate threat of insurgency and other criminal activities in the country.
The Minister also lauded the Commandant of the Centre, Air Vice Marshal Mike Iloenyosi, for infusing dynamism into pre-retirement training, noting that the partnership with several non-governmental organisations, such as Nigeria Foundation and Centre for Enterprise, Pan African University and Lagos Business School, has further improve on the skills passed on to the trainees.
