Mob sets ablaze unrepentant robber in Osun
Gunmen shoot state’s NURTW vice chairman, flee with body
A man, simply identified as Loni, was killed yesterday, by an angry mob at Ireti Ayo community, Ilesa, Atakunmosa West Local Council of Osun State.
He was alleged to have stolen a motorcycle in the community on Saturday evening before he was haunted and set ablaze by angry youths, including some commercial motorcycle operators in the area.
It was gathered that Loni had dispossessed the motorcycle from an unsuspecting commercial motorcyclist in the area, and had hidden it in an uncompleted apartment.
A source claimed that the suspect had a previous record of robbery with the police in Ilesa and that the deceased was notorious for stealing people’s motorcycles.
He added that other commercial motorcyclists identified him after he was apprehended and alleged that Loni was a serial thief. Consequently, they carried him away and carried out jungle justice on him.
The Guardian gathered that the suspect was apprehended when he returned to the place he allegedly hid the stolen motorcycle to collect it. Unknown to him, a group of youths in the area had already launched a manhunt for him immediately after the incident happened on Saturday evening.
The source also stated that the Nigeria Police, A Division, Ayeso, Ilesa, was aware of the development and that his corpse had been deposited at a mortuary in Ilesa town.
At press time, the spokesperson for Osun Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, did not pick up calls put across to her telephone.
MEANWHILE, Gunmen have reportedly attacked the Vice Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Osun State, Quoseem Ali in Apomu, in Isokan Local Council of the state.
Ali, popularly called Kekere Kasuma, was said to have been driving to his hometown in Apomu on Saturday night before some gun-wielding men waylaid him and shot him.
It was gathered that the incident happened at about 8:30 p.m., close to RCM Missionary House in Apomu.
They were said to have picked up Ali’s body from his car, put it in their vehicle and drove off, after shooting sporadically to scare people away.
Sources disclosed that Ali’s vehicle was abandoned and none of his belongings was taken by the suspected assassins.
