A mobility and delivery platform, 1TimeShop, has introduced new safety features aimed at improving passenger and driver security across its taxi-hailing services.
Unveiled this week by the company’s leadership, the enhancements are part of a broader push to address concerns around fraud, impersonation, and insecurity in Nigeria’s transport system.
Co-Founder and Director of Joevexm Nigeria Ltd/1TimeShop, Mr. Jeffry Obaro J., described the initiative as a “game-changer” for mobility in Delta and beyond.
“We understand the anxieties some passengers face when hailing a ride, and the risks honest drivers deal with. These safety features are designed to ease those fears and make every journey secure and reliable,” he said.
Key updates include a One-Time Password (OTP) ride verification system to ensure passengers enter the correct vehicle, and a live trip tracking system with an SOS alert feature for real-time emergency responses.
Drivers must now undergo strict Know Your Customer (KYC) verification, involving identity and vehicle checks before onboarding. Additionally, a trip-sharing option allows users to send live journey updates to friends or family for monitoring.
An in-app emergency contact feature also connects users directly to law enforcement, enabling faster incident reporting. For drivers, a new communication system offers real-time traffic and road safety updates.
“This is more than just an app update—it’s a social intervention,” Obaro said. “We’re building a system that protects passengers, empowers drivers, and restores trust in public transport.”
The move comes amid rising concerns about insecurity in Nigeria’s transport sector, including reports of fraud and “one chance” robberies.
