During his 85th birthday celebration in Abeokuta, Ogun State, over the week- end, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo advised Nigerians to carefully select the leader that can bring desired trans- formation, not based on ethnicity, but skill set.

He said: “If we look hard, widely and fairly, and we bring objectivity, national interest and patriotism to bear, and which must be spiced with equity, integrity and performance, then no region or zone should claim to have monopoly of Nigerians that can lead us along the path of nation building on the bases of justice, fast economic development, inclusive growth, shared values and our rightful place in the global division of labour and decision making process.”

During her address, the Di- rector-General of the World Trade Organisation, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, also stated: “The current generation of African leaders need to open the door to a new generation of vigorous, enlightened, well-schooled and some- times technocratic leaders. This is about bringing new skills and perspectives to leadership, including the ability to manage her economies to prosperity and sustainability.”

When addressing the press at the celebration, ADC presdential aspirant and Wall Street Journal bestselling author, Chukwuka Monye, reiterated: “We, as Nigerians, need to make the decision of who we want, that will de- liver to us the great Nigeria that we deserve.

“Like Chief Obasanjo has said, we need to properly evaluate and scrutinise the options that we have, to en- sure that we are voting for those with the requisite skills, passion and personal- ity that are required for nation building transformation.”
