MOSOP proposes 20% derivation for Ogoniland’s development
The National Congress of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has proposed at least 20 per cent of derivation from natural resource extraction for the development of the host communities.
This was contained in its resolutions made available to The Guardian in Abuja. The Congress also demanded compensation for livelihood losses due to decades of oil pollution in the region.
Signed by the Secretary-General, Alex Akori, Congress graciously passed a vote of confidence on MOSOP President Fegalo Nsuke and declared the willingness of the Ogoni people to work with his leadership to achieve their goals.

The Congress further resolved that the leadership should set up a conflict resolution committee to address inter- and intra-communal conflicts in Ogoni.
Also speaking, MOSOP President Fegalo Nsuke said it’s time to solve the Ogoni problem, pointing out that the people must stand up to defeat both internal and external repression, especially those who would want to commercialize the leadership of splinter groups.
Nsuke also stated that splinter groups have deviated from the primary goal of the struggle and have started chasing money and personal interests, urging the people to be ready and committed to resolving the problem permanently, now that President Tinubu has provided a platform.
Former MOSOP President, Dr. Fortune Okwa Chujor, urged the Ogoni people to support the development initiatives of Nsuke, describing him as a non-commercial president, and calling on youth to support him in achieving the objectives of the association.
