HYPREP wants MOSOP to promote pollution, poverty-free Ogoni

The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has called on the Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) in the Diaspora to utilise their global networks and resources to promote pollution and poverty-free Ogoni.

HYPREP’s Project Coordinator, Prof Nenibarini Zabbey appealed at the MOSOP Commemoration held in Kansas, USA, recently. Zabbey, in a statement signed by its Head of Communication, Enuolare Mba-Nwigo, said HYPREP and MOSOP share a common vision of an Ogoni free from pollution, poverty, and discord.

He emphasised the need for peace and unity in addressing decades of pollution and breaking the poverty cycle in Ogoni. Zabbey urged MOSOP members to support HYPREP’s cleanup programme and work collaboratively to achieve a shared future.

He assured of the Federal Government’s commitment to implement the United Nations Environment Programme Report’s recommendations, and working diligently to accelerate the cleanup under the national agenda.

He said: “HYPREP’s projects in Ogoni are designed to implement the UNEP recommendations and achieve the project’s objectives. These initiatives include providing alternative livelihoods for people affected by oil spills, vocational training, and support for small businesses. The Ogoni Power Project aims to provide sustainable and reliable electricity to Ogoni communities, supporting economic growth and development.”

He stressed that the actualisation of these presidential directives and other initiatives requires the active involvement, support, and trust of all Ogonis.

By working together, he said, HYPREP and MOSOP can accelerate the pace of environmental restoration, livelihood restoration, and implementation of special projects, ensuring a legacy of healing, prosperity, and sustainability for Ogoniland.
