Multi-door courthouses will promote ADR, enhance access to justice, say Sanwo-Olu, CJN, AGF

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), have said that the establishment of multi-door courthouses is a significant step towards promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and enhancing access to justice.

They spoke, yesterday, during the first yearly multi-door courthouses & Alternative Dispute Resolution stakeholders’ summit held in Victoria Island, Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, said that the efforts had reduced court cases, improved the administration of justice, and made legal services more accessible.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to support ADR as a tool to foster economic growth.

Also, Kekere-Ekun urged all the stakeholders to continue to support the growth and development of ADR in Nigeria, saying: “The responsibility lies with all of us from the judiciary to the legal profession, and from business leaders to government agencies.

Fagbemi called for support from the stakeholders to work towards developing and refining ADR procedures to ensure that they are fair, efficient, and enforceable.

Also, the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Kazeem Alogba, in his opening address, called for continuous collaboration with the private sector and stakeholders to ensure that Lagos State remains at the forefront of dispute resolution advancements.

Earlier, Chairman of LMDC Governing Council, Justice Jumoke Pedro, stated that the LMDC remains dedicated to fostering the growth and advancement of ADR mechanisms.
