The Lokoja Diocese of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has urged the police to fish out those behind the killing of two of its members on April 7.

The Bishop of Lokoja Province, Bishop Emmanuel  Egbunu, who made the call during a news conference in Lokoja on Tuesday, said that the church would not accept endless investigation into the murder.

Egbunu said  that the police must come out with a specific outcome in time.

He said that the victims, Mrs Lolo Alhassan, the General Manager, Kogi Investment and Property Company, and Mr Olugbenga Kekere, were on legitimate missionary work to Bassa Local Government when they were murdered at about 4 p.m. at Gboloko community by some unknown assailants.

He said that the work was part of activities marking the church’s Annual Mission Week of visitation.

“These are people who would have continued to be the pride of Kogi State; now cut down in cold blood,’’ he lamented.

Egbunu said that the incident should not be treated with levity because of its future implication for the state and the country in general.

The bishop said he appreciated the efforts being made by the police and other security agencies to arrest the killers but said that this should not drag for too long.

He said that it was important for the state government and the police to track down the attackers whom, he said, were armed with sophisticated weapons.

“The nature of the attack should be determined; whether terrorist, political or religious, especially since no robbery was carried out in that particular attack,’’ the bishop said.

The church also urged the state government to put in place adequate security in the area of the incident, to guarantee the safety of travellers and villagers, whom he noted, had have been living in fear since the incident happened. (
