Denies having case with EFCC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the September 10 governorship election in Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, yesterday gave an insight into the type of government he would run if he emerges victor at the poll later this year.

According to Obaseki, the state will witness an inclusive administration where emphasis would be placed on information and communication (ICT) to further reduce the cost of governance.

“One thing I will want to do is to use technology information to run government, a smart government because we don’t have money. We don’t have the kind of money we used to have. So, one innovation which we started with the Comrade Governor is the use of ICT so we are going to move up to a much higher level so that we can give a lot efficiency from the little money we have.”

Addressing newsmen yesterday in Benin City, the gubernatorial hopeful said he was already in touch with many of the aspirants who contested last Saturday’s primary with him in line with his determination and that of the party to go into the election as one united family.

Obaseki also refuted claims that he was having a case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

“I don’t have a case with EFCC. I read the story. As you know, I am on the board of several companies and this company in question is a German company and I served on their board and they had a partner who died many years ago. And unfortunately, his estate has not been properly managed, his other businesses have gone bankrupt and there is a petition from their children claiming that this company was owing their father. It is a family having quarrels and all sorts of internal issues. So, they wrote to EFCC and other bodies. So, if somebody is owing you money, are there no courts to go, is it not a civil matter?

But I didn’t manage the company. I was just a shareholder. So, I don’t have anything there. But you know being in politics, you expect everything,” he clarified.

On the primary that produced him, the APC flagbearer said he ran the delegates congress like a full election.
