Myitura unveils women-focused healthcare financing plan to tackle access barriers

‎Myitura, a Nigerian health-tech platform, has launched a new women-focused healthcare financing initiative aimed at addressing persistent barriers to quality and affordable healthcare access across the country.

The initiative was announced alongside the release of a white paper titled “Closing the Gap: Healthcare Financing for Women in Nigeria,” published to mark the 2026 Women’s Month. The report highlights systemic challenges—including high out-of-pocket expenses, limited insurance coverage, and socio-economic constraints—that continue to hinder women’s access to timely medical care.

According to the report, more than 70 per cent of healthcare costs in Nigeria are borne out-of-pocket, a burden that disproportionately affects women, many of whom delay seeking medical attention due to financial pressures and competing family responsibilities.

Speaking on the findings, Myitura’s Chief of Staff, Chialuka Kelechi, noted that improving access to early and affordable healthcare for women has far-reaching implications.
‎“When women can afford to take care of their health early, we don’t just save lives; we strengthen families, communities, and the economy,” she said.

The white paper further revealed that preventable health conditions often worsen due to delayed intervention, while many women tend to deprioritise their own health needs. It emphasised that structured and affordable healthcare financing solutions could significantly improve health outcomes.

In response, Myitura has introduced a women’s health initiative offering affordable, tailored healthcare packages designed to promote preventive care and early detection.

The packages, powered by Mediloan, start at ₦58,180 and provide access to a range of diagnostic services, including blood sugar tests, urinalysis, electrolyte checks, urea and creatinine tests, as well as screenings for HIV, hepatitis B and C.

The offering also includes Pap smear testing and abdominopelvic ultrasound, alongside ongoing support through the Myitura digital platform.

The company stated that the packages can be accessed via its mobile application, providing users with a convenient pathway to affordable healthcare services.

Myitura said the initiative underscores its broader commitment to leveraging technology and financing solutions to improve healthcare access, particularly for underserved populations.
