A former gubernatorial candidate in Bauchi state; and managing director of Guroje Mining Company Limited, Abdullahi Usman Adamu is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for allegedly defrauding a Chinese national to the tune of N6.5 billion.
Adamu, who had been declared wanted at different times, was last Monday, April 18, arrested by the Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID), in Bauchi from where he was transferred to the EFCC. A top EFCC source who confided in The Guardian stated that Adamu is being held for alleged criminal conspiracy, fraud and obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N6.5 billion, including $ 550,000.
“A complainant, Fengquai Zhai, a Chinese, alleged that the suspect duped him over N6.5billion, after appointing him a shareholder with 30 percent share in his company, Solid Units Nigeria Limited, in partial fulfillment of the mandatory requirements for incorporation of a company in Nigeria.
The complainant further alleged that the suspect forged several documents at the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), in an attempt to take over the company from him”, the source revealed.
He added that Adamu, in alleged connivance with one Yusuf Ali of Solid Unit Nigeria Limited also allegedly obtained the sum of N23.4 million from another complainant, one Olajide Olaleye who is managing director of TTMW Services Nigeria Limited.
“Among other things, the suspects, sometime in June 2011, allegedly entered into a contract agreement with the complainant for the supply of 250 metric ton of lead ore at the rate of N80,000 as well as N28,000 per ton of Zinc Ore, totalling N20 million”.
“The suspect was also arrested following a petition by Zhou Shanqing, the Economic and Commercial Counsellor Embassy of the People Republic of China on behalf of Shengjia International Limited who allegedly made an advance payment of the sum of $ 550,000 USD to his( suspect) company for the supply of 300 Mt of lead Ore. But three months after the contract shipment time, the complainant could not receive the goods”, the source revealed, adding that Adamu would be charged to court on all three cases at the conclusion of investigations.
