The National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) yesterday challenged Gen. Mohammadu Buhari-led in-coming administration to evolve an equitable and viable government that reflects the common yearnings, fears and aspirations of the citizenry.

The organisation who spoke in Abeokuta during a Press briefing urged the government to pay special attention to how to tackle violence, ethnic and religious conflicts, “endemic corruption” as well as social and economic challenges bedeviling the country.

Besides, the organisation would like Buhari’s new government to run an “All inclusive government, ensuring fair and balance representation in the scheme of things”.

The group’s National President, Alhaji Kamal’deen Akintunde who addressed Journalists appealed to Nigerians to “sustain the commitment, dedication and steadfastness in pursuing other salient national issues”.

He charged all the elected candidates in the recently concluded elections to govern the country with the fear of God and also “embrace the rule of law in the act of governance.”

“Still on our expectations, we call on all political office holders to obey all righteousness by fulfilling their campaign promises in order to justify people’s confidence in them and as a way of building trust into the political system,” Akintunde said.

NACOMYO said “Political leaders are servants and not masters of the people and therefore, Governors-elect and other political office holders should render selfless services and ensure grass roots development by embarking on people-inclined programmes and projects that will fast-track development in their respective states.”

“The level of immorality in the country”, Akintunde said “needs urgent attention of government at all levels. NACOMYO implores the incoming government to make religious education compulsory from primary to tertiary. This will reduce youthful restiveness and other vices being perpetrated by the youths, just as it will strengthen the corruption crusade of the incoming government.”

“In order to reduce ethnic and religious violence, armed robbery, insurgency, kidnapping and other acts inimical to the peace and security of the nation, the incoming administration should be proactive in generating employment for unemployed Nigerian youths.”

“We call on the President-elect to revive the War Against Indiscipline (WAI) introduced in his days as a military Head of State to bring sanity to the Nigerian society”.
