Raids warehouses with over N100m worth of expired food products in Niger
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has uncovered a warehouse stocked with banned, fake and unregistered cosmetic products valued at over N3 billion in Lagos State.

The uncompleted building located at the APT Trade Fair Complex in Ojo Local Council of Lagos State was discovered during routine enforcement operations.

In a statement posted on its X handle yesterday, the agency described the haul as one of its most significant seizures in recent times, stating that large quantities of prohibited skin-lightening and medicated soap products, known to pose serious health risks, were found.

“Items recovered include 728 cartons of Crusader soap, 718 cartons of E45 soap, and Extract Gold whitening soaps, which are products banned by the Federal Government.

“Additional items, such as assorted perfumes, body oils, and cooking oils, were also found and placed on hold for further regulatory assessment. All seized products have been evacuated to prevent distribution,” the statement read.

It added that the warehouse manager had been invited for further questioning.

NAFDAC, therefore, warned that the sale and use of such products pose serious health risks to consumers.

It, however, urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.

Similarly, NAFDAC has sealed 18 warehouses in Bida, Niger State, as part of its enforcement operation, seizing expired food and beverage products valued at over N100 million.

According to the agency, the warehouses, located around Ndazabo White House along Minna Road and behind Bida Modern Market, were shut after its investigation and enforcement team acted on credible intelligence.

The agency said that during the raid, its officials uncovered large quantities of expired non-alcoholic beverages, dairy milk, candies, bottled water and pasta, some of which had already been packaged for distribution.

The items recovered, according to the agency, included about 80,000 packets of expired non-alcoholic drinks, 5,000 packets of dairy milk, 16,000 packets of bottled water, and 28 cartons of pasta, alongside other assorted expired products.

NAFDAC said that managers of the affected warehouses were arrested for interrogation, saying that preliminary findings linked the facilities to a company identified as BY Ventures.

It also said that the Managing Director of the company, Yusuf Nadabo, who was invited for further questioning, had admitted ownership of the expired products.
