As members of the Nigeria Guild of Editors commence their three-day yearly meeting in Owerri, Imo State capital, recently formed National Association of Radio and Television Presenters of Nigeria (NARTPON), has welcomed them, wishing the editors fruitful stay and deliberation.

In a statement issued by the National President and the National Publicity Secretary of the association, Jerry Osuji and Salvator Amadi, respectively, the group reminded the editors that the pen remained mightier than M-16 and AK-47 rifles.

The statement reads: “The National Executive Committee and members of National Association of Radio and Television Presenters of Nigeria (NARTPON) warmly welcome the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) to the 2022 All Nigerian Editors Conference holding in Owerri, from November 10 to 12, 2022.

“We appreciate the pride of our state as the Eastern Heartland of Nigeria, which, in recent past, has consistently hosted prominent events organised by major agencies of Federal Government of Nigeria.”

The presenters recalled recent military personnel’s retreat, which was held in the state, stressing: “Of note was the Chief of Army Staff Conference that attracted top brass of the Nigerian military to Protea Hotel in New Owerri.

“Another instance was last week’s visit by President Muhammadu Buhari, whose third visit to the state in less than seven months marked the Inspector General of Police Strategic Conference for peaceful election, which lasted from October 30 to November 3 also at the Landmark Event Centre of Protea Hotel.”

The group observed that personalities, who will attend and speak to the editors, are remarkable. It said: “That the conference of editors will feature former Minister of Information, John Nwodo, a product of Nigeria’s premier citadel of learning, University of Ibadan, the National Security Adviser, Major-General Baba Gana Monguno and the National Chairman of Nigeria’s electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who will address issues concerning the 2023 general elections in Nigeria, exemplifies the social responsibility of the fourth estate of the realm, the media, which organisations, such as the NGE and NARTPON, affiliates of Trade Union Congress (TUC), champions with utmost dedication and relentless nationalistic commitment.”
