Abductors of Nasarawa State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Yakubu Lawal Adda, have rejected an offer by his family members to pay N3.5m, insisting that it must be N100 million before his release.

A family source said: “The kidnappers called one of us at about 4.30 p.m. on Tuesday and said the only way they will release the abducted commissioner is when we pay the sum of N100 million as ransom.

“We offered to pay N3.5million, but they switched off their phone. Then we redialed the number and it was no longer reachable.”

But, Nasarawa Eggon Local Council boss, Hon Danla Iddris , in a statement, yesterday, said the council was on top of the security challenges.

He noted that in recent times some criminals have been terrorising  and distorting farming and other economic activities in the council

According to him, these criminal elements have succeeded in instilling fear in people who go about their lawful businesses by abducting them for ransom.

He said:  “A teacher in Government Science School, Nasarawa Eggon was on Saturday night kidnapped, coupled with the abduction of the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism.”

“The commissioner was kidnapped at about 8:00p.m. on Monday, in his residence in Nasarawa Eggon town, by unknown gunmen, who shot sporadically and whisked him away.

“On this note, we have in collaboration with security agencies, deployed all the necessary security measures to ensure security of life and property of our people.

“ I wish to re-assure the people of Nasarawa Eggon Council that we are on top of the situation to ensure the quick release of the commissioner and curtail the ugly security challenges in the area.”
