Nasarawa NSCDC recovers NECO fees diverted by principals

Nasarawa State Commandant of the Nigerian Securities and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Alhaji Lawan Bashir, has disclosed that over N400, 000 has been recovered from secondary school principals who diverted examination fees.

Bashir said over 100 students of two secondary schools in the state are not writing the ongoing National Examination Council (NECO) due to criminal diversion of their registration fees by their various principals.

He said the intervention of his men led to the recovery of the monies, adding that the affected principals were not arrested because the parents of the students were not interested in having any case with them, but insisted on getting back their money.

Bashir, who spoke to journalists yesterday in his office in Lafia, listed the schools as Shekkina International School in Agyaragu area of Obi Council, Government Secondary School, Awogoshen in Akwanga Council and Government Secondary School, Wakama in Nasarawa Eggon Council. He confirmed that hoodlums also snatched examination materials during the examinations in Wakama.

Bashir said the command has deployed over 300 of its personnel across the state to ensure that the notice issued by Arewa youths to the Igbo to leave the north does not affect the state, as it has been in touch with the various tribal associations to ensure security of all.
