Nasarawa residents lament abandoned Adokasa road

Gov Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State

Residents of Adokasa community in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State have raised alarm over the abandonment of a key road project in the area, calling on Governor Abdullahi Sule to urgently intervene.

The road project, which was initiated to transform a previously hazardous route into a safe and accessible roadway, was expected to boost local commerce and ease the transportation of agricultural produce.

However, residents say the project has been left uncompleted by contractors, leaving them in continued hardship with the return of the rainy season.

A concerned resident, Mr. Tanko Philip, who expressed concern over the noticeable potholes on the uncompleted stretch of the road appealed to the governor to use the authority of his office to compel the contractor handling the project to return to site.

“I am sure our hardworking governor is not aware that the road project has been abandoned midway. It is unfortunate. We keep hearing different stories—some say the contractors have not been paid, others claim they collected the full contract sum and disappeared. They must return to complete the job,” he said.

Another resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, expressed frustration over what he described as neglect of the community.

“It is unfortunate that Adokasa residents are being taken for granted. They think we are villagers without a voice, but they are mistaken. We will continue to draw the attention of the government to this issue,” the resident stated.

It would be recalled that Governor Sule had earlier expressed concern over the slow pace of work by contractors across the state, urging them to accelerate project delivery ahead of the rainy season.

The Adokasa road project forms part of a broader infrastructure development agenda of the Nasarawa State Government. This includes major projects such as the 2.6-kilometre twin flyover in Mararaba and the construction of one-kilometre roads in each of the state’s 13 local government areas to enhance connectivity.

In early 2026, the state government also approved about ₦13 billion for road projects, underscoring its commitment to infrastructure development.

Despite these efforts, residents of Adokasa say urgent action is needed to ensure the completion of the abandoned road and to alleviate the daily challenges they continue to face.
