‘National Assembly can’t summon U.S. envoy over visa denial’
The United States Embassy in Abuja has said that the National Assembly does not have the right to summon the Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Stuart Symington, over the alleged denial of visa to one Kayode Bello.
The Clerk, House Committee on Public Petitions, Mr. Omale Adoyi, had disclosed that the committee invited the American envoy over the issue, but he shunned it.
It was reported that the summon was at the instance of Bello, an activist, who petitioned the House over what he tagged indiscriminate visa denial and illegal visa rate by the United States Embassy in Nigeria.
“They have no right to invite the ambassador,” a source at the U.S. embassy maintained.
Hearing on the matter by the House commenced recently with the absence of any official from the embassy.
Consequently, the committee adjourned the hearing till December 18, 2018.
