The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Dankombo Morris, has ordered a sweeping security operation across the state ahead of the nationwide protest slated for Monday, April 7, 2025.
This follows intelligence reports indicating that some groups, operating under the cover of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), are planning to stage demonstrations to protest the high cost of living and what they allege as government suppression of free speech.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the Commissioner has directed all unit commanders and officers to be on high alert, stressing the need to secure critical infrastructure and public spaces to prevent criminal elements from hijacking the protests for violent ends.
“The protest, though expected to be peaceful, may be exploited by hoodlums to attack government facilities and disrupt socio-economic activities,” Nguroje stated in a statement.
As part of the security strategy, deployments have been made to key areas including Labour House, the Aliyu Mustapha International Airport, marketplaces, major junctions and roundabouts, public and private warehouses, government Secretariat, and court complexes. Police presence will also be heightened at the Unity Flyover, Jabbama Toll Gate, and Jimeta-Girei Bridge, among others.
Personnel for the operation were drawn from various specialized units such as the State Criminal Investigation Department, Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Anti-Bomb Squad, Special Rapid Response Team, and all divisional police headquarters in the state.
The police command urged residents to remain calm, conduct their lawful activities without fear, and report any suspicious activity using the emergency lines provided.
While affirming the right of citizens to protest peacefully, Morris warned against any acts of violence or lawlessness during the demonstrations.
