The Nigerian Navy, Forward Operation Base (FOB) Ibaka in Akwa Ibom State, has arrested three suspects with 4,750 litres of products suspected to be Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

The Nigerian Navy, Forward Operation Base (FOB) Ibaka in Akwa Ibom State, has arrested three suspects with 4,750 litres of products suspected to be Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).

The Base Operating Officer, Lt Commander, Daniel Onyemaeze, disclosed this yesterday, while handing over the suspects to Candidi Odo, the Superintendent Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) at Ibaka.

The commander said the seized products were in 19 drums of 250 litres each and one wooden boat, adding that the suspects were nabbed on Monday, August 29, along Effiat waterways in the state.

He stressed that the Base was handing over the suspects and exhibits to the prosecuting agency, NSCDC for further investigation and action.

“This morning, the FOB Ibaka is handing over 19 drums of products suspected to be PMS to NSCDC.  The products were intercepted by our personnel in FOB Ibaka during our routine patrol at waterways.

“This is in line with the mandate of the Chief of Naval Staff to curtail illegal and criminal activities in the water ways,” he said.

Onyemaeze warned perpetrators of illegal bunkering, oil theft and other criminal activities to desist from their nefarious activities, else the wrath of the law would catch up with them.

Receiving the suspects and exhibits, Candidi Odo commended efforts of the Navy to reduce illegality to the barest minimum along the waterways.

“We express our gratitude to the Nigerian Navy, FOB Ibaka for the correlation that has existed between the Navy and NSCDC.

“I enjoined the Navy to continue in their good works and we promise that we will never fail in carrying out further investigation and persecution of the culprit,” he stated.
