Operatives of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Delta have rescued three passengers from a capsized boat at Bennett Island along the Escravos River in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The rescue operation was carried out during a routine maritime security patrol as part of the Nigerian Navy’s mandate to protect critical national assets and safeguard lives and property within the country’s maritime domain.
The Guardian gathered that naval personnel spotted debris and floating objects from the capsized boat, prompting an immediate search-and-rescue operation that led to the successful rescue of the three passengers without any loss of life.
The boat was reportedly overwhelmed by rough waves generated by a heavy rainstorm, leading to the accident.
Following the rescue, the survivors were evacuated to the NNS Delta sick bay on the directive of the Commander of NNS Delta, Commodore Shehu Tasiu, where they received prompt medical attention.
The victims were later discharged after doctors confirmed that their conditions had stabilised.
The Nigerian Navy reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a safe and secure maritime environment while supporting lawful activities across Nigeria’s waterways and coastal communities.
